This "hotshoe" allows the card to be entered and retained. The card is read like a normal card reader and the usual authentication process is followed. Once the card is read and in place the "hotshoe" can instruct the controller to carry out certain actions. For instance, used in a students room it can turn on the lighting and heating until such times as the card is removed, which when this happens the lights and heating will turn off.
